1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 454

This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 454 Sport Coupe is a classic beauty that went through a restoration before the current owner got it in February 2021 in Michigan. The car has a bold red color with black stripes and comfy black vinyl seats. Powering this beast is an LS5 454ci V8 engine, paired with a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear axle with 3.31:1 gearing.

Some cool features include a Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, 14-inch Super Sport wheels, power steering, power-assisted front disc brakes, a cowl-induction hood, power windows, and a Delco push-button radio. The car even comes with an owner’s manual, a magazine article about it, restoration pictures, and a valid Nevada title held by the current seller.

During the restoration, the body was separated from the frame and treated to its eye-catching red color with black stripes. You’ll notice chrome bumpers, quad headlamps, hood pins, dual side mirrors, SS 454 badging, and dual exhaust outlets. The 14-inch Super Sport wheels with bright trim rings and F70 Goodyear Polyglas tires add to the car’s allure.

Inside, the cabin has front bucket seats and a rear bench in black vinyl. The dashboard, headliner, and door panels all match in color. The interior is decked out with power windows, lap belts for five people, Chevrolet-branded floor mats, a Muncie shifter, and a Delco push-button FM radio. The air conditioning needs a recharge, and the rear speaker is not working. Unfortunately, the key for the locking center console is missing.

The car features a three-spoke steering wheel on a tilt column and various instruments, including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The odometer shows 35k miles, with about 200 miles added during the current ownership.

Under the hood, the LS5 454ci V8 engine was factory rated at 360 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. It has a cowl-induction system, a Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, and polished valve covers. Power goes to the rear wheels through a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction rear axle.

The car’s frame was refinished in black during the restoration, and the underside looks solid. Decoding the body tag provides information about the car’s style, assembly plant, body sequence number, trim, paint color, and build date. Overall, this Chevelle Malibu SS 454 is a head-turning classic with a powerful heart and a rich history.
